Senior Housing in Mixed Use Retail Centers in Minnesota

Just when you started to get tired of these retail/residential centers springing up in the suburban areas of America, they’ve taken a new twist when it comes to Senior Housing.  Presbyterian Homes and Services’ plans for 14 acres in Wayzata, MN are much like its plans for a 21-acre site in Eden Prairie, MN: a senior housing complex that offers much more than senior housing.  The project calls for 130,000 square feet of retail space and leave open the possibility for a hotel in the complex besides residential housing units specifically developed for seniors.  The primary benefit of project such as this have been the ability to have access to shopping and medical services within a reasonable distance from the housing units.

Presbyterian Homes and Services is a large, longstanding nonprofit based in Roseville, MN. It operates 32 senior housing facilities in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. In 2006, the organization was 20th in a ranking of Minnesota’s largest non-profits, with revenues of about $166.6 million, up 13 percent from the previous year.
