Presbyterian Communities and Services Appoints Director of Nursing

Dallas, Texas-based Presbyterian Communities and Services, a faith-based nonprofit comprised of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) and hospice services, has named Toni Walker as director of nursing for Presbyterian Village North.

As director of nursing, Walker will be responsible for conducting remote and on-site clinical quality assurance audits of clinical documentation, tracking reports of infections, occurrences, complaints and satisfaction surveys for trends, managing the nursing department budget, navigating patient care delivery for cost-effectiveness and best discharge outcomes and developing, coordinating and conducting educational programs for employees.

She will also work with the executive leadership and interdisciplinary team members on coordination of care and overall goals of the organization.

Walker brings to the position more than 20 years of experience in the health care field. She has worked at various retirement communities in the Dallas area since 2005, and has an unrestricted compact RN licensure in the entire state of Texas and 22 MLC member states.

Fidelis SeniorCare Welcomes New President/CEO

Fidelis SeniorCare, which provides care and care coordination services for dual eligible (Medicare and Medicaid) beneficiaries, recently announced the appointment of Alec Cunningham as its new president and CEO. Sam Willcoxon, founder and former CEO, will remain with the company and assume the role of chairman.

Cunningham is the former WellCare CEO who led the company into and through a sustained period of record profitability. His experience and leadership at some of the nation’s largest government-focused managed care companies, and his track record for promoting and sustaining growth, are qualities that will help him drive the next phase in Fidelis’ development, the company says. 

He brings to the position more than 20 years of experience in Medicaid and Medicare HMO program development and management. 

Prior to WellCare, Cunningham served as vice president of business development and compliance at WellPoint Health Networks, Inc., where he was responsible for developing and managing health care products for state-sponsored programs. He also worked for the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to develop and implement a statewide Medicaid managed care program.

New Jersey CCRC Promotes Anne M. Hay to Executive Director

Crestwood Manor, a Springpoint Senior Living community in Whiting, N.J., has announced the promotion of Anne M. Hay to the role of executive director. 

Hay has served as administrator/assistant executive director of Crestwood Manor for 11 years, but her career at Crestwood spans more than 23 years. During her tenure, which began in 1991, she has held the positions of marketing associate, public relations associate, health care center admissions director and, since 2003, administrator/assistant executive director. 

Erickson Living Names New Operations, Dining Directors 

Erickson Living has named Matt Rosewag to its newly created position of director of operations for continuing care and project management, and Jim Basham to director of dining services for Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville, Md. 

Rosewag will oversee the implementation of the new memory care program and the construction (beginning later this year) of a new continuing care facility on Charlestown’s 110-acre campus. He will also assist in the facilitation and coordination of various teams of management, leadership and executives to drive the transition and opening of the new facilities while achieving revenue, cost and profitability targets. 

Previously, Rosewag served as administrator of continuing care for Charlestown. 

Basham, the new director of dining services, brings extensive and diverse leadership experience in food services management, including finance and operations, strategic process improvement, production planning, customer service and quality assurance in both single and multi-unit operations.

Over the past 17 years, Basham has provided leadership and oversight for several food service operations including Fairfax County Public Schools, Aramark, McCormick & Schmick’s and Compass Group, where he was responsible for managing the labor, purchasing, training, development and the operational turnaround for 100-plus operated units with revenues of approximately $32 million. 

Most recently he served as the director of food and nutrition services for Friendship Public Charter School in Washington, D.C.

Springpoint Senior Living Promotes David Wean to Vice President of Facilities, Fixed Asset Management

Springpoint Senior Living, a New Jersey not-for-profit senior housing provider, announced the promotion of David Wean to vice president of facilities and fixed asset management. 

In this position, Wean will assist the chief operating officer by overseeing activities involving capital repairs and replacement, budgeting, plant operation, maintenance, property disposition, landscape, interior design and procurement of related services for Springpoint’s six CCRCs and 18 affordable housing communities throughout the state of New Jersey.

Previously, Wean served as executive director of Crestwood Manor since 2001. Prior to joining Springpoint, he held managerial positions that ranged from daily operations, quality control, plant operations, campus construction and repositioning projects, procurement and dining services management.

ACTS Retirement-Life Communities Announces Executive Promotions

ACTS Retirement-Life Communities, the largest not-for-profit owner, operator and developer of CCRCs, recently announced the promotions of three individuals to leadership positions within the company.

Karen I. Christiansen has been promoted to the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer. Christiansen has worked at ACTS for the past 18 years in a variety of financial positions, most recently as senior vice president of financial services. In addition to her increased financial responsibilities, she will directly oversee the corporate areas of information technology, procurement and risk management.

Charles W. Coxson III has been promoted to senior vice president of community operations. Coxson has worked at ACTS for more than 16 years in a variety of operational roles, including executive director at multiple ACTS communities and most recently as vice president of the Florida region. In his new role, he will be responsible for all aspects of community operations at ACTS’ 23 community locations throughout the East Coast.

Jefferson D. Kaighn has been promoted to the position of senior vice president of legislative affairs and organizational development. Kaighn has worked at ACTS for more than 19 years in a variety of operational roles, including executive director at multiple ACTS communities and most recently as vice president of the Pennsylvania region. In his new role, he will oversee the areas of social accountability, public policy and advocacy, and new business development.
