Spectrum Retirement Names Kristi Oliver VP of Operations, Western Division

Denver-based Spectrum Retirement LLC has named Kristi Oliver as its newest Vice President of Operations for the company’s Western Division, which includes Illinois, Colorado, Indiana, Ohio, New York and New Mexico. She joins Spectrum from Sunrise Senior Living, where she held multiple operational positions over her nine-year tenure, most recently regional director of operations in the Chicago area. During her career with Sunrise, Oliver earned accolades for her ability to care for residents, lead teams and build communities of excellence.

Oliver has an extensive career in health care and staffing. Prior to Sunrise, she was a branch manager at Medical Staffing Network in Des Plaines, Ill., and an affiliate administrator of Delta-T Group, a behavioral health care staffing company, in Oak Brook, Ill. Oliver started her career in employee placement, as both division director for international recruiting and placement firm Robert Half International and as a private services manager for Tenet Health System, both in St. Louis, Mo. Recognized as a rising star early, Oliver was promoted to branch manager of Kelly Assisted Living Services after just one year in the industry.

Oliver earned two bachelor degrees – one in business management, the other in marketing – from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. She served as an assisted living cabinet member with Life Services Network, a statewide association in Illinois that represents the leading providers of the complete continuum of services for older adults, including nursing care, supportive and assisted living, senior housing, and home- and community-based services. 

Oak Crest Names Michael Friedel Director of Continuing Care

Erickson Living’s Oak Crest retirement community announced the promotion of Michael Friedel to the position of Director of Continuing Care. Previously, he served as the Assisted Living Manager at the Erickson Living community in northeast Baltimore County.

Friedel succeeds John Lurz, who was named as a Vice President for Continuing Care for Erickson Living, the manager and developer of Oak Crest.

With Oak Crest since 2011, Friedel brings a wealth of health care administrative experience to his new leadership position. He has served as a nursing home administrator in Pennsylvania and an executive director of an assisted living facility in Delaware. He is currently licensed as a nursing home administrator in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

The extended care neighborhood at Oak Crest provides assisted living, respite care, post-acute rehabilitation & nursing care and outpatient rehabilitation services to its residents.

A resident of Forest Hill, Md., Friedel is an active volunteer with Echo Church and Caring Hearts Ministries.  He possesses twenty-five years of experience in the culinary industry with Marriott Hotel.

Cambridge Realty Capital Chairman Jeff Davis Joins Blueprint Healthcare Board

Cambridge Realty Capital Companies Chairman Jeffrey A. Davis has been invited to serve on the Board of Directors for Blueprint Healthcare Real Estate Advisors, a newly formed national advisory firm that is providing a multitude of services for investors and operators of senior housing and healthcare real estate.

The new firm is being led by a team of senior housing industry members that includes founding partners Ben Firestone and Jacob Gehl, formerly with Marcus & Millichap’s senior housing investment arm. Davis says Cambridge completed several transactions with Firestone and Gehl when the Blueprint founders were with Marcus & Millichap and looks forward to supporting the new venture “in every way possible.”

Sanctuary Care at Rye Adds Two Healthcare Experts to Advisory Board

Sanctuary Care at Rye, a New Hampshire memory care community, recently announced the addition of two nationally respected health care experts to its Advisory Board. Ellen Tetor, a former N.H.A., skilled nursing owner/operator and senior and assisted living consultant, and Charla Holt, a former N.H.A. and licensed assisted living administrator, were both named to the advisory board by Founder and President Jonathan McCoy.

Ellen Tetor brings to the Sanctuary Care at Rye Advisory Board more than 30 years of experience owning, developing, managing and providing care in senior living environments. With $150,000,000 in projects and approximately1000 senior living units managed as an executive and consultant, Tetor will offer operational insight and care expertise.

Charla Holt began her career as an administrator of assisted living facilities in the 1990s. As a credentialed NHA, Holt contributed successfully to the launch and profitable management of multiple new and established assisted living communities responsible for care procedures and guidelines, staffing and training, and leasing.

Jocelyn Fitzgerald Named Marketing Director of Legacy Terrace

Legacy Retirement has named Jocelyn Fitzgerald the new marketing director for the Legacy Terrace in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Fitzgerald began her career with the Legacy Retirement Communities more than 16 years ago in dining services at the Legacy. In 1999, she began as a front desk receptionist and an activities associate for the Terrace. She joined the Terrace marketing team as an associate in 2007. During all of this on site training, Fitzgerald received her B.A. in studio art from UNL with a minor in gerontology.

Fitzgerald is excited to bring her one on one relationship sales training and her practiced listening skills to her new marketing director role. Fitzgerald’s positive spirit, her strong belief in the Legacy Retirement Communities’ mission and values and her staff development training through Leadership Management International will enable her to assist the marketing team to continue its near 100% occupancy rate.

A Place for Mom Names Charlie Severn VP of Brand Marketing

A Place for Mom, the nation’s largest senior living referral service, announced recently the appointment of Charlie Severn to Vice President of Brand Marketing, a newly created role within the company geared toward the elevation of A Place for Mom’s marketing efforts, a brand overhaul and a renewed focus on raising awareness about the vast amount of options available in today’s senior living industry as continued innovations and improvements are made nationwide. 

As part of his role, Severn will spearhead a refreshed advertising campaign featuring Joan Lunden, caregiver, wife, mother of seven and A Place for Mom’s spokesperson. Following the success of their first commercial, A Place for Mom will launch its new commercial in early 2014. 

Prior to joining APFM, Severn held several senior marketing positions at Expedia.com, Starbucks Coffee Company and EvansGroup Advertising Agency. 

Severn received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Washington in Seattle and a 4A’s Associate degree in Advertising.

Robin Gliboff Named Executive Director of Devonshire at PGA National

Robin Gliboff has been named the Executive Director of Devonshire at PGA National, and the community’s continuing care neighborhood, Chatsworth at PGA National. The properties, located in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., are owned and managed by Erickson Living. 

 In her new role as Executive Director at Devonshire, Gliboff will be responsible for providing operational oversight, leadership and vision for the community, achieving company-wide objectives for quality care and services, overseeing staff development, managing departmental operations, and participating in community relations activities. 

Gliboff most recently served as the Executive Director of Greenspring, an Erickson Living community located in Springfield, Va. While in that position, Greenspring achieved industry-leading occupancy levels, strong resident satisfaction and employee engagement results, as well as several awards including the 2013 Excellence in the Workplace Award from LeadingAge. At Greenspring, Gliboff also previously served as Associate Executive Director, Director of Resident Life, and Senior Resident Services Manager. Before joining Erickson Living, she held director-level positions at HCA Dominion Hospital, Behavioral Health Management Associates, LLC, and The George Washington University Medical Center.

Gliboff received a Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work degree from Syracuse University.  

Emerald Heights Names 3 New Members to Board of Directors

Emerald Heights, a retirement community in Redmond, Washington, recently announced the appointment of three new members to their Board of Directors as well as changes to their roster of officers.

The new Board members bring expertise from the financial, medical and agricultural industries. Richard Bryan currently serves as Vice President of System Change Management and Chief Compliance Officer of Overlake Hospital Medical Center. Prior to his six year tenure at the hospital, he was a liaison for the State of Washington Department of Public Health and a Captain at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma.

Scott Mullet is Senior Vice President and Principal at GW Capital, Inc., an employee-owned institutional focused investment firm. Mullet brings a wealth of finance and portfolio management experience to the Board culminating from his more than 20 years of investment experience. Mullet is also President of the First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue Foundation.

In addition to two community Board members, Wesley Eckert has been selected as the newest resident Board member. Eckert has resided at Emerald Heights for just under two years. He was formerly the President and Chief Executive Officer of Darigold Incorporated. Since his retirement in 1998, Eckert has volunteered his time and expertise both locally and internationally. He was an active Board member of the U.S. Dairy Industry in addition to the Board of Presbyterian Retirement Communities Northwest, where he served as a member and Chairman. Emerald Heights consistently maintains three Board positions for residents to ensure their voice in its governance.

Theresa Minervini Named Sales Director at Covenant Village of Florida

Theresa A. Minervini has been named sales director at Covenant Village of Florida, a faith-based, not-for-profit, continuing care retirement community administered by Covenant Retirement Communities. 

In her new position, Minervini will develop and implement a sales program for the retirement community’s 294 residential retirement apartments, which include studio, one- and two-bedroom residences. In addition to residential retirement, the senior living community’s continuum of services includes 21 assisted living residences, 22 memory-support assisted living residences and a 60-bed skilled nursing center.

Minervini brings more than a decade of sales and related experience in the senior living industry. Before joining Covenant Village of Florida, she was the sales supervisor at Meadow Ridge, Redding. Conn. Prior to that, she was the sales director at The Club at Briarcliff Manor, a CCRC in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.

Minervini has an associate’s degree in business management from Westchester Community College, Valhalla, N.Y. She lives in Boca Raton, Fla.

Julie McKitrick Named Executive Director of Lutheran Village of Wolf Creek

Lutheran Homes Society recently announced the appointment of Julie McKitrick as Executive Director of Lutheran Village of Wolf Creek, a retirement community located at 2001 Perrysburg-Holland Road in Holland, Ohio.

McKitrick has been employed in the long-term care industry for 16 years. Most recently, she was an administrator with Trilogy Health Services, where she worked for more than five years at locations in Genoa, Maumee and Willard, Ohio.

As Executive Director of the Wolf Creek campus, McKitrick will be responsible for the ongoing operations, community relations, and business development of the retirement community, which is a ministry of LHS in partnership with St. Luke’s Hospital. The campus offers independent living, assisted living, long-term and short-term nursing care, rehabilitation services, and respite care.

McKitrick is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA). She earned a bachelor’s degree in gerontology from Bowling Green State University, with a specialization in long-term care administration. She resides in Oak Harbor, Ohio, with her husband and three children.

Presbyterian Communities & Services Appoints 3 Executives 

Presbyterian Communities and Services, a faith-based nonprofit organization comprised of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) and leading hospice services, has named three new senior-level employees to its upper management team. 

Barbara Matamoros has been named Director of Sales and Marketing for Presbyterian Communities and Services. She has over 20 years of experience in the senior living industry and was previously Vice President of Marketing for 13 years at Greystone Communities. Matamoros was responsible for the development and execution of the marketing plan for all levels of service including budget development, marketing strategy, advertising, collateral development and media campaigns. 

Matamoros holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Texas Tech University and a Health Promotions Director certification from Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas.

Another edition to the corporate team is Mark Lenhard, the Corporate Director of Organizational Development. After two years as the executive director at Grace Presbyterian Village, he attained and maintained a 5-star campus status and the community was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top independent living communities in the country.

Lenhard received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and holds a Master of Science in Gerontology from Baylor University. He has been active in the senior living industry nearly 20 years and is currently an officer of the board for LeadingAge Texas and is a certified preceptor for the state of Texas for administrators-in-training.

John Berkely was appointed as Executive Director at Grace Presbyterian Village. Berkely has a 19 year management career rapidly advancing through a level of leadership positions in senior living communities. His last position was as Senior Vice President for Senior Services where he supervised the management of four senior living communities. 

Berkely holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Policy and Administration from Pennsylvania State University in Youngstown, Ohio and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy. He is a Texas Certified Assisted Living Manager, a Certified Administrator in Training Preceptor in Texas and serves on the LeadingAge Public Policy Committee.

Meta Housing Corp. Appoints Kasey Burke as President

Meta Housing Corporation, a leading developer of affordable and market-rate apartment communities for seniors and families, has announced the expansion of its executive leadership team with the appointment of Kasey M. Burke as President.

Burke, who has worked with Meta Housing for more than a decade and most recently served as its Executive Vice President, will guide the strategic direction and positioning of the company as it continues to expand in size and scope, according to John M. Huskey, Chairman and CEO of Meta Housing Corporation.

According to Burke, under his leadership, Meta Housing will further expand specific development niches, including its unique “arts colony” apartment communities, while continuing to grow its core affordable housing business.  The firm will also focus on growing its development of inclusionary housing for master developers, for which Meta Housing has developed 450 units. 

John Huskey will continue to serve as Chairman and CEO of Meta Housing Corporation, and George M. Russo will continue to serve as the company’s CFO.

Name Change for United Methodist Retirement Communities’ Charitable Arm

United Methodist Retirement Communities’ separately-governed charitable arm has been renamed from UMRC Heritage Foundation to United Methodist Retirement Communities Foundation.

The change occurred as the organization wants to emphasize its focus on the future needs of seniors and distinguish the charitable organization from other missions also using “Heritage” in their name.

In another move, UMRC has reduced the criteria for assisted living residents in its Chelsea Retirement Community to qualify for “benevolent care,” from 48 months to 42. UMRC president and CEO John Thorhauer announced the organization is increasing the amount of benevolent support for qualified residents by more than 20% a year.

Spectrum Retirement Names Maureen Magrath as ED for Mo. ALF

Spectrum Retirement Communities recently named 

Maureen Magrath as the new Executive Director at Creve Coeur Assisted Living & Memory Care. Magrath is the ideal candidate to manage this community and Magrath possesses more than 10 years of successful experience in senior living; bringing quality care and service to all her residents. 

Creve Coeur Assisted Living & Memory Care is slated to open late Fall 2014 in the Creve Coeur area, and offers assisted living, transitional memory care, and memory care residents a home where they can age-in-place. Magrath will manage approximately 60-70 full and part-time employees, and Creve Couer will have capacity for around 86 residents. 

Prior to working at Creve Coeur Assisted Living & Memory Care, Magrath was the Executive Director at a Sunrise Senior Living Community in St. Louis, MO. She also served as the Senior Program Director, National Director of Sales Training and Director of Marketing/Missouri at ResCare Premier in St. Louis, MO. Magrath also has experience as the Director of Clinical Services at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Institute.

Magrath is a Licensed Clinical Worker, Nursing Home Administrator and Certified Case Manager.
