Brookdale Launches Training, Compliance Partnership for 50,000 Staff

Brookdale Senior Living (NYSE: BKD) announced this week it has formed a five-year partnership with health care training software provider HealthStream (NASDAQ: HSTM) to provide training and compliance for Brookdale’s 50,000 employees.

Under the agreement, the organizations will co-develop a new course under HealthStream’s learning programs that is specifically geared toward the care provided by senior living communities as well as their compliance considerations.

The announcement comes following the death of a resident of one of Brookdale’s California communities in February, leading to questions about regulations around and company policies regarding assisted living staff qualifications and policies. The resident passed away some time after telling a facility nurse that she was having trouble breathing, which sparked questions about the proper response and qualifications for care providers in assisted living communities.

The new training and education will span Brookdale’s 50,000 employees and 650 communities nationwide.

“Through our agreement with HealthStream, we are investing in the continued development of our associates who are continuously fulfilling our mission to enrich the lives of our residents and their families,” said Glenn Maul, Chief People Officer for Brookdale. “We look forward to working with HealthStream to implement their solutions and partner with them to develop learning tools that will benefit the senior living industry.”
