Michael Hargrave Leaves NIC to Pursue Start-Up Opportunity

Michael Hargrave is today leaving his post as Chief Market & Data Strategist for the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry’s Market Area Profiles Data and Analysis Service (NIC MAP) to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors focusing on other real estate sectors.

During his eight-and-a-half year tenure at NIC, the senior living industry data provider’s data and analysis service expanded its market coverage from the top 31 to the top 100 metro markets. Hargrave assumed responsibilities of Chief Market & Data Strategist for NIC in February 2013 after serving as vice president of NIC MAP.

“Mike was instrumental in introducing the NIC MAP data and analysis service, developing its products and growing its customer base,” NIC said in a statement. “The NIC MAP service has brought increased transparency to the market and has matured to the point that its data and analysis now regularly moves the market.”

Hargrave’s last day at NIC is today, July 17. He plans to take some time off and enjoy the summer with his family before pursuing a start-up opportunity to cover data and information for property sectors other than senior housing.

“I have very much appreciated and enjoyed my time with NIC and I am very proud of what we were able to accomplish. As such, this was a very difficult decision,” Hargrave said. “During the past 8+ years, I have come to establish many very close relationships and one of the things that impresses me the most are the number of truly great people in this industry. It is because of the tremendous staff and support we have and continue to receive that NIC has been able to accomplish so much!”

Hargrave has more than 20 years of experience in the senior housing and care industry. He has previous entrepreneurial experience through the 1992 co-founding Health Care Plus, Inc., a full-service executive recruitment and consulting firm where he served as principal until 2003.

NIC said in an announcement to its staff and Board that the organization is “confident” it has a plan in place to ensure a smooth transition.

In February, NIC announced the appointment of John Blumer as the NIC MAP National Sales Director. In this role, he leads the NIC Product Sales and Service Team with a primary focus on the execution of the NIC MAP Business Plan, implementing strategies for growth of the MAP customer base and managing the further development of the sales, sales support and subscription services team.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this article incorrectly indicated that Michael Hargrave was vacating the post of vice president of NIC MAP, when in fact he had held the role of Chief Market & Data Specialist since February 2013.
