A sobering article indeed! ALF's seem to be turning into a hub for senior residential activities. With an industry revenue flow dependent on census stability, the balance between hospitality and hospital become even more critical. ALF services will need to expand in order to keep up with medical challenges and demands. I believe preventative care measures adopted by the healthcare industry will be the key in staving off an exodus to skilled nursing facilities. A prominent ALF regional director once told me that the industry relies on the success of a social model however, I believe a successful clinical model will soon be a half brother.
