Oakland, California Senior Housing Project Prepares To Open

May 3rd, 2009 · 1 Comment

The Jack London Gateway Senior Housing project is preparing to open in the next few weeks and the project received some good press about the opening in the Contra Costa Times.  The project is part of a mixed-use development to infill an underutilized neighborhood shopping center parking lot.  The senior housing will bring 61 units of affordable senior housing to the area and is being developed by the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation in conjunction with West Oakland Marketplace Advancement Co. and Portfolio Properties, Inc.  The development, previously known as the Acorn Shopping Center, provides housing for the area’s senior population along with a shopping center.

The facility will employ various environmentally friendly features such as solar powered common areas and hot water heating, energy efficiency of over 15% above California Title 24 standards, low-VOC interior paints and interior flooring, and water-saving toilets.
